August 2013 Haul

One thing about me when I'm stressed, I go to Beauty Bar or to the cosmetics area in Shangri-La or Megamall department stores and let myself be swallowed by the sensation of being surrounded by all the make-up. There are times that I force myself to stop from buying something (oh the horror). I do admit I have  shopaholic streak (a bad one).

The Germans live to their reputation of quality and excellence. ArtDeco is one brand that surprised me a lot. I was looking for a purply-pinkish lipstick similiar to YSL's Fuchsia in Rage. Found this in Beauty Bar's website and I instantly fell in love. This is from their range of High Performance lipsticks and this is #494. The tube is heavier compared to Chanel's but it is as chic.
The color payoff is beautiful. One layer gives off a bright shade of the color but is buildable. It didn't dry my lips but needs to be re-apply from time to time.
Another ArtDeco product and this one is an instant HG.
We all have problems with our eyeshadows creasing. I used to have the Palladio eyelid primer but for some reason Beauty Bar doesn't have it anymore. I was thinking of buying the Nars ProPrime but I don't want to buy an expensive primer. I never really thought of buying from Benefit. I tried using LOreal Base Magique but it didn't work well (makes sense because it's a primer for the face).
And then a saleslady from Beauty Bar offered me this. I was hesitant at first because it was a bit expensive but since I trust ArtDeco I went ahead and bought one.
DIVINE is all I can say. My officemates noticed how well-made my eyeshadow still look even on the last hour of my shift. It starts to crease on the 12th hour but it's a very minor crease, hardly visible.
I have used this with both powder and cream eyeshadows - the results are very impressive indeed.
It has very minimal shimmer as the product is supposed to give luminosity to your eyeshadow (not too sure about that). There's a mild scent to it - kind of similar to Dial soap and it so happens I like Dial.
It's a bit tricky though to blend powder eyeshadows if I don't wait for the primer to set. It blotches a bit but still workable.

TheBALM Instain blush in Lace. First time I heard of it was from emilynoel83's Youtube channel and her topic was about high end products that were worth buying. The concept is similar to Body Shop's Lip and Cheek stain but only in powder form and it can't be used on the lips.
I was supposed to buy this one and Argyle (petal pink). Suprise surprise, I got back the following week and it was the first to be out. Knowing female buyers, the next one to go would be the pink blush so I immediately told the saleslady to get me a new stock.
Needless to say, this is another HG for me. It doesn't take a lot of this blush to give my skin a beautiful pinkish glow. I'll just use my Bloom blush brush as it's the fluffiest brush I have, and all it takes is just one gentle dip on the blush and good blending and I'm out the door. The color stays until I take it off with my cleanser. One of those products that are definitely worth buying.

Wet N Wild is one of those brands that I tend to forget that I have. I already have 2 of the ColorIcons in Blue had Me at Hello and Comfort Zone. I got to say, their eyeshadows are well-pigmented. I have no qualms on the quality of the product. It's just that, well, I forget...
I was actually looking for another another eyeshadow trio but I guess it was already phased-out. So happened that I saw this. I Dream of Greenie has 3 pearl-finish eyeshadows that's supposed to highlight the eyes. I used it one time to the office and I like the outcome. It did make my eyes the focal point of the look. Just have to make sure that I didn't use shimmery blush or bright lipstick.
As usual, the trick is to blend well the eyeshadow. The product blends well and fall out is at a very minimum.

It has to be said - I am NOT a fan of Max Factor. Blame it on bad experience.
However, there will always be something to make me believe otherwise. I was watching one of Lisa Eldridge's videos and this was the mascara she used. I always believe Lisa when she says a product is good so I took a chance and bought this on a day that I forgot to wear mascara (yes, I have those days)
It was like the heavens telling me it's time to love Max Factor -it so happened this one was on sale. I was tempted to buy the brown one but I'll buy that next time.
Surprisingly enough, it's a really good mascara. It doesn't clump up my lashes and it separates them well. The wand is made up of tiny bristles and the product itself isn't watery nor too waxy. (I like mascaras that don't clump on the tip of the wand). It gives a big impact on my lashes too. It's lightweight and doesn't streak with my concealer. One point got MF.

StyliStyle waterproof liquid eyeliner in Blue and an eyeshadow pen.
To get it out of the way, then powder eyeshadow is a fail. I am glad I got it from a sale. It IS NOT worth P500 (I got it for P150). The color is so sheer that you can't see it at all. Even the shimmer disappears before half the day is gone. Not worth buying again (DISCLAIMER: If you're the type who likes sheer eyeshadow and/or one of those who wants to use make-up but isn't comfortable wearing vibrant/solid colors, then yeah, maybe you can use this)
The waterproof liner though is nice. It's glides on smoothly and it really is waterproof. The color didn't fade away and it's a fun color to use. However, when I tried removing it, I found that it stained my lashline. Yep, it left a stain. It disappeared a while later but then I realized, isn't the same effect a permanent pen does to the skin? Hmmmm

My Make-Up Fascination

My love for make-up didn't start until a year ago. I am turning 28 in a few days and it's funny in a way because I found my ultimate hobby at such an age. Whenever I feel down, I just go to my stack of make-up, hold a mascara or an eyeshadow pallet and I feel calm and happy.

I only had a handful of make-up back when I was working. Just 1 eyeshadow quad from Body Shop, a lip gloss, and mascara. Oh! Let's not forget a really scratchy blending brush, which back then was perfectly fine for me. I even thought at that time that it was a waste of money to buy those. HAH! If I could go back and tell myself "Think again!"

It all started with a simple make-up tutorial in Youtube. I saw an officemate watching it and I was mesmerized at the way the foundation was applied, the eyeshadow blended, the mascara wand was wiggled and how pretty the lipstick and blush were.

And then the fascination grew. The more videos I watched, the more I wanted to try the techniques. I was so mesmerized by it all that I started to buy make-up. It was an amazing adventure for me. Learning how to blend was my favorite. Just looking at the colors and the packaging was intoxicating for me... yep, like I were high in drugs. :P
